Welcome Guide

Everything you need to know before, during and after your stay in a lakefront cottage in Lanaudière, Quebec.

Domaine Chalets des Pins is a four-season cottage rental estate in Rawdon, Lanaudière, about* an hour from Montreal. The 40-acre (16-hectare) private estate is home to four fully equipped cottages sleeping up to 28 guests, overlooking Lac des Pins — a private, non-motorised lake with crystal-clear water — a 175-metre fine sand beach and century-old pines.

Domaine Chalets des Pins is a family project and a dream come true: we live on site with our two children (the reception is attached to our house). We look forward to welcoming you into the Domaine Chalets des Pins family!

* Anyone who has driven around Montreal knows the traffic is a course of orange cones, surprise jams and unannounced roadwork — a real-life game of Mario Kart. So we give you an estimate.

What’s included in your cottage

On site: the essentials

Arrival and cottage access

All our cottages are fitted with a smart lock and digital keypad: no key to pick up and no fixed check-in window. Your personal access code is given to you when you check in, along with the Wi-Fi password and detailed instructions.

Parking and electric vehicle charging

Each cottage has its own free private parking. Access is by paved road followed by a short gravel driveway: no 4×4 required.

An electric vehicle charging station is available on the estate on request. There is also a secure space to store and lock bicycles.

Wi-Fi, drinking water and power

Fibre-optic Wi-Fi is included in every cottage — fast and reliable, just like in the city. Many of our guests use it to work remotely surrounded by nature. The password is sent to you with your booking confirmation.

Tap water is potable. There is no need to bring bottled water.

Lac des Pins, beach and watercraft

Lac des Pins is private and non-motorised. A few other private waterfront properties also have access to it. Our fine sand beach stretches 175 metres, with a gentle slope that is ideal for children. Pedal boats, kayaks for adults and children, and paddleboards are included in your stay.

Life jackets (PFDs): children’s and adult life jackets are required for all water activities and provided free of charge. We keep them in the shack by the beach.

Pool noodles, outdoor games and sand toys: floating noodles, outdoor games and sand toys are provided on site at no extra charge.

Outside watercraft: to protect the lake from invasive algae contamination, watercraft brought from elsewhere — including inflatables — are not permitted on the lake.

Fireplace and firewood

Firewood is included in your stay — chopped with love by David and his father — and kept in the shed set aside for that purpose. We simply ask that you use it reasonably.

Firelighters, newspaper and kindling are not provided, so bring whatever suits your preferred scouting method!

BBQ

Each cottage has a propane BBQ (propane provided) and a charcoal BBQ (bring your own briquettes). Please close the propane tank after every use. If it runs empty, contact us and we will gladly replace it.

Television, satellite channels and DVD player

Each cottage has a television with satellite channels and a DVD player — just like the good old days. A small adjustment is sometimes needed.

Satellite channels (Shaw)

  1. On the TV remote, press Input or Source until you reach the input connected to the satellite receiver.
  2. Then use the large Shaw remote.
  3. Press Guide to browse and select the channel you want.

Tip: if no image appears, make sure the receiver is turned on and that the selected input matches the satellite connection.

DVD player

  1. Turn on the TV with its own remote.
  2. Open the disc tray with the DVD remote.
  3. Using the TV’s Input button, select the HDMI input for the DVD player.
  4. You can then navigate with the DVD player remote.

Before you lose your patience, call us! We are on site and happy to walk you through the screen.

Rules and responsibilities

These few rules protect the estate, the lake and everyone’s peace and quiet. Thank you for respecting them.

Safety

  • Fireworks are prohibited on the estate.
  • Do not swim or do water sports alone. Children must be supervised at all times on the beach — there is no lifeguard on duty.
  • Possession and use of weapons, including paintball guns and pellet rifles, is strictly forbidden.

Caring for the place

  • Septic tank: please do not pour greasy substances (cooking oil, fat), acrylic paint or dangerous products into the sink or basins, and do not flush tampons, cotton pads, sanitary towels or diapers.
  • The cottages are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted in the screened veranda.
  • Quiet hours after 9 p.m., out of respect for the neighbourhood and other guests.

Pets welcome

Your cat or dog is welcome to join you, for a flat fee of $50 per stay to cover housekeeping. Pets must be kept on a leash in common areas: some of our guests are not comfortable around animals.

Occupancy and damage

  • The number of occupants specified at booking must be respected. If guests are added, let us know: a fee of $25 plus tax per night applies.
  • Although unlikely, we are not responsible for the loss, theft or breakage of your personal belongings.
  • In the event of damage to rental property, or if the cottage requires abnormal housekeeping, an amount matching the market value of the damaged property or the cost of the services will be retained.

Thank you in advance for taking care of our enchanting place.

At the end of your stay

For energy conservation and safety, we ask that before you leave you:

  • Check that the fireplace and BBQ are fully out.
  • Check that all windows and doors are closed and locked.
  • Set the thermostats and heat pump to 17 °C (winter only).
  • Take your waste to the sorting station (garbage, recycling, deposit containers and a battery bin), located in the shed with the blue door and a clock, next to the reception parking lot. Compostable bags are provided and the compost is beside the garage. Need your bearings? Check the map you will receive when you arrive.
  • Strip the beds you actually used — remove the sheets and pillowcases and simply leave them on the bed, so we can tell which beds were slept in. (Some guests remake them so beautifully that we honestly hesitate!)

Finally, make sure you don’t forget anything: we do not mail items back. You will have to come and stay with us again — or we will keep it safe for your next visit to the region.

If you would like to share your happiness in photos or leave a review, it would warm our hearts. Tag us as Domaine Chalets des Pins on Facebook, @domainechaletsdespinsca on Instagram, or leave us a review on Google. Thank you for staying with us — it was a real pleasure to welcome you.

Rawdon and the surrounding area

In Lanaudière you can do everything — including nothing at all!

More questions?

Our FAQ page answers in detail everything guests ask us before booking: parking, electric vehicle charging, public transit, nearby grocery stores, air conditioning (yes, we have it!), laundry, dishwashers, fishing on Lac des Pins (yellow perch and smallmouth bass), watercraft, and activities on the estate and in the region.

The estate and its keepers

Our story

The same family looked after this land for more than 70 years. In 2024 we became its keepers in turn — with our two children, the century-old pines and this lake that swept us off our feet on our very first visit.
