Growing with Love and Respect for Nature

Domaine Chalets des Pins: Our Story

First, it is important for us to emphasize that the Lanaudière region is located on unceded Indigenous territory, historically recognized as a place of residence and passage for many First Nations. The region, particularly Nitaskinan, is ancestral territory. The Atikamekw Nation, specifically the community of Manawan, has lived, hunted, and fished there since time immemorial. We recognize the living, ancestral, and cultural presence of the original custodians of these lands, and we are honored to care for these lands today.

It was around a magnificent mountain lake, Lac des Pins, that in the early 1940s, Walter Halbig created and developed his authentic little piece of paradise in the heart of some 300 acres of ancient, lush forest.

Captivated by the beauty of this exceptional site, he set about developing the property, known today as Chalets des Pins. He built and furnished his country residence, which soon became his primary home for himself and his family.

Over the years, Walter passionately built and developed his magnificent property. Drawn by the landscape, visitors and vacationers discovered his well-kept secret.

He then decided to share it with holidaymakers on a more regular basis, offering the rental of cottages and houses for short stays.

For more than 30 years, M. Halbig’s daughter, Carole, and her partner Philippe carried on in the same spirit, lovingly tending to the property. Domaine Chalets des Pins has maintained this tradition of honouring its guests with its unique combination of warm hospitality and a promise of happiness and comfort.

An inventive way to offer visitors comfortable accommodations and the opportunity to enjoy this still wild and wonderful place where humanity and nature can coexist in mutual respect.

In the summer of 2024, Carole and Philippe entrusted Domaine Chalets des Pins to David and me (Sabrina). We didn’t end up here by chance. In life, there are no coincidences — only meant-to-be moments.

Our desire to put down roots with our children, Arthur (6) and Rose (3), and live in the heart of nature, is part of a long life journey. More than 15 years ago, during a trip around the world, David and I were already talking about this dream bigger than life: to one day settle in nature and welcome visitors seeking renewal and memorable moments — like those offered to us by the people who hosted us throughout our travels.

Life carried on, and about fifteen years later, after particularly challenging pregnancies, a year of training on feminine cycles and a dedicated practice of returning to oneself, I presented David, in January 2024, with the idea of leaving the city and my career as a lawyer to return to the dream we had cherished when we were younger.

On a scrap of paper, we drew up two columns: the minimum and the BIG DREAM. Barely two months later, David sent me — “as a joke” — a Centris listing: Carole and Philippe’s house. The listing didn’t quite spell out the sale of the Domaine. On my birthday, March 1st, I asked David to go for a visit, “just to see.” As it turned out, the Domaine checked every single box on the BIG DREAM list.

Upon arriving, the moment I set foot in the parking lot, I looked up at the pines, the lake, then turned to David and said:

“I know this will sound crazy, but we are going to live here.”

The call was stronger than anything.

After 7 years on the market, at the summer solstice of 2024, we officially became the owners. Since then, we have put down roots here with our children.

Our vision is to carry forward the deeply rooted tradition of Domaine Chalets des Pins: welcoming visitors who love nature and the living world, eager to connect with it and create memorable moments — alone, in groups, as a couple, as a family, or with friends.

We are passionate about sharing the magnificent region of Lanaudière, an authentic place with unique attractions and local character. Day after day, we put in place sustainable development initiatives to preserve this little piece of paradise that is Domaine Chalets des Pins for future generations.

Two generations have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to developing and preserving this exceptional heritage. We are deeply honoured to be the third!

We are immensely grateful for every person who comes here to recharge and connect — each visit confirms that it is still possible to dream big and follow your own path in life, no matter how unconventional. Because once again, there are no coincidences — only meant-to-be moments!

We look forward to welcoming you!

Your Hosts

As Warm as They Are Endearing

We immediately felt at home — the place has such a warm, welcoming feel. We savoured every magical, peaceful moment, sitting by the water or by the fireplace. Time stood still during our getaway and the intimate conversations we shared.

The quality of the facilities and access to a variety of activities (hiking, kayaking, pedal boating, fishing, etc.) made it easy to enjoy our favourite pastimes. Every element was in place to make our weekend unforgettable. Chalets des Pins — the perfect spot for outdoor activities in any season, or simply to write, read, and recharge in nature.
