Respecting nature and our guest’s privacy

Chalets des Pins: Our History

It was around a magnificent mountain lake, Pine Lake (Lac des Pins), that in the early 1940s, Walter Halbig created and developed his authentic little corner of paradise in the heart of some 300 acres of ancient and lush forest.

Seduced by the beauty of this exceptional site, he began the development of the estate, known today as Chalets des Pins, and built and fitted out his country residence which soon became his main residence, for him and his family.

Over the years, Walter passionately built and developed his magnificent property. Attracted by the landscape, visitors and vacationers discover its well-kept secret.

He then decides to share it with vacationers on a more regular basis. It therefore offers the rental of chalets and houses for short stays.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Halbig’s daughter, Carole and her partner Philippe, have, in this same spirit, continued to pamper the estate. Chalets des Pins combines this tradition of honoring these guests with its unique combination of warm hospitality and a promise of happiness and comfort.

An inventive way of offering comfortable accommodation to its visitors and the opportunity to enjoy this wild and wonderful place where man and nature can coexist in mutual respect.

In the summer of 2024, Carole and Philippe entrusted us—David and me (Sabrina)—with Domaine Chalets des Pins. We did not arrive here by chance. In life, there are no coincidences, only meaningful encounters.

Our desire to put down roots with our children, Arthur (6) and Rose (3), and to live at the heart of nature is part of along life journey. More than 15 years ago, while traveling around the world, David and I were already speaking about this greater-than-great dream: one day settling in nature to welcome visitors seeking rest, reconnection, and memorable moments—just as we ourselves experienced with those who welcomed us along the way.

Life continued its course and, some fifteen years later—after particularly challenging maternity journeys, a year of training on feminine cycles, and a devoted practice of returning to oneself—I shared with David, in January 2024, the idea of leaving the city and my career as a lawyer to return to the dream we cherished when we were younger.

On a simple piece of paper, we drew two columns: the minimum and THE BIG DREAM. Barely two months later, David sent me—half joking—a real estate listing: Carole and Philippe’s home. The listing did not, strictly speaking, indicate that the Domaine was for sale. On my birthday, March 1st, I asked David if we could go visit, “just to see.” It ended up checking every box on THE BIG DREAM list.

Upon arriving on the property, the very moment I stepped into the parking area, I lifted my eyes toward the pines and the lake, then looked at David and said:
“I know this may sound crazy, but we’re going to live here.”
The calling was stronger than anything else.

After 7 years on the market for sale, at the summer solstice of 2024, we officially became the owners. Since then, we have put down roots here with our children.

Our vision is to carry forward the deeply rooted tradition of Domaine Chalets des Pins: welcoming visitors who love nature and the living world, who wish to reconnect and create meaningful memories—alone, in a group, as a couple, with family, or with friends.

We are deeply committed to sharing the beauty of the Lanaudière region—an authentic place rich in attractions and a unique local terroir. Day after day, we implement sustainable initiatives to help preserve this corner of paradise, Domaine Chalets des Pins, for generations to come.

Two generations devoted their time, energy, and passion to developing and preserving this exceptional heritage. We are profoundly honored to be the third.

We hold immense gratitude for every soul who comes here to rest, reconnect, and share in this place—each presence reminding us that it is still possible to dream big and follow one’s life path, however unconventional it may be. Because once again, there are no coincidences—only meaningful encounters.

We look forward to welcoming you,

Sabrina, David, Arthur, and Rose

Your Hosts

As Warm as Endearing

After a long, hot, sticky Montreal summer it was so good to breathe clean, fresh air again, without having to spend countless hours on the road.
I have to say, Sabrina seems to have been born for the role of hostess. From the moment we arrived we felt warmly welcomed. Every detail was guest-centered, right down to the jar of flowers her little boy had picked and placed on the dining room table, and the bucket full of logs beside the fireplace.
The cabin Sous-Bois (Woodland) we stayed in could easily accommodate six people, but was also cosy enough for the two of us. It was really well equipped without feeling cluttered. Imagine waking up and having your morning coffee on the back stoop, watching the sun rise over a calm, pristine lake, as smooth as glass…
